This article explores the role of foreign-language historical and cultural texts as a tool for enhancing cultural literacy within foreign language lessons. The author emphasizes the methodological value of such texts, outlines the stages of working with them, and provides examples and tasks. A universal model for analyzing texts is presented, aimed at fostering respect for cultural diversity, developing critical thinking, and building student’s intercultural competence in students.
The article is devoted to the study of the mechanisms of representation of the notion of toxic masculinity in South Korea based on the Guardian. The author highlights the central and related elements of this notion, defining it through negative stereotypes of the traditional understanding of masculinity, including aggression, intolerance, and emotional closure. The study is conducted by using methods of contextual analysis, a linguocultural approach, and observation of the functioning of relevant linguistic units in the newspaper article. The analysis of the factual material showed how negative male behavior manifests itself in society and affects relations between the sexes, emphasizing the importance of rethinking existing cultural norms. The work’s innovative contribution is the identification of specific components that characterize toxic masculinity and the demonstration of its impact on public consciousness in South Korea.
