This paper summarizes the experience of the analysis of controversial texts containing ethnophaulisms which are negative evaluative names of a person (or group of people) on ethnic grounds, in the framework of linguistic expertise for the period 2018 – 2022.

The article is devoted to the identification of hidden meaning in controversial texts of journalism. The article is based on a psycholinguistic experiment proposed by prof. I.A. Sternin, which allows you to assess the fact of the presence of hidden meaning by analyzing the perception of this text by readers. This method was used in the process of analyzing one of the controversial media texts in the regional press.
