the article analyzes the formation of national legislation in the field of countering extremism in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Russia. The main attention is paid to the study of the use of the term "extremism" in legislation and scientific literature. The analysis of the adopted legal acts revealed the absence of the concept of "extremism".

The article is devoted to the problem of extremism and extremist activity, the high crime rate of these types of crimes. Some of the origins of this problem are considered, and special attention is paid to ways to prevent extremist activity. The author's mechanisms for countering extremism are presented.
