This article examines the development of ego identity and its relationship to psychological defense mechanisms. Primary and secondary psychological defenses and methods for diagnosing them are examined. A sample of pop culture characters is analyzed, followed by an analysis of their psychological defenses, followed by conclusions about the causes of the development of certain defense mechanisms.
