The article studies the history of Yakut ethnomusicology, the initial stage of its formation is associated with the name of the first Yakut composer and musicologist M.N. Zhirkov. A large role in the research of Yakut musical folklore is associated with the names of Yakut composers G.A. Grigoryan and N.S. Berestov. Fundamental research by E.E. Alekseev laid the foundation for the study of the most pressing issues of Yakut ethnomusicology. His name is due to the fact that the most studied area was the Modes Scales system of the Yakut folk song. Subsequent Yakut ethnomusicologists continued the traditions of the first Yakut researchers in musical science in terms of studying various genres of Yakut traditional songs, musical folklore of the peoples of Yakutia, Siberia and the Far East. The contribution of Yakut ethnomusicologists to science is associated with the collection of folklore material, which they recorded in a wide territory of the North-East of Russia. They outlined further research prospects.
