The article examines the features of using special knowledge in the study of identity documents of a foreign citizen in the Russian Federation and the application of these results in the process of proving a criminal case. In the course of the analysis of law enforcement practice, it was found that most often the documents that are subject to change are passport, migration card, educational documents, work patents. Typical types of changes, methods and methods of their detection, as well as technical means used in document modification were considered. Proposals have been developed aimed at improving the efficiency of using special knowledge when working with such objects.

The article examines current issues of administrative and legal regulation of the status of labor migrants in the Russian Federation. Special attention is paid to the fragmentation of legal status, migration registration, verification of legal access to employment, and employer liability. The article proposes legislative improvements aimed at coordinating migration registration, residence, and employment of foreign citizens.
