The article focuses on the ways of developing soft skills while teaching a foreign language to international students whose purpose is to pass a Russian as a foreign language test. The authors analyze the ways of organizing a foreign language class with different groups of learners: those attending preparato-ry courses before entering University, those doing a language course as part of their education in a summer school, and those aiming at passing the Russian language exam before getting a license to work in the Russian Federation. The authors show that in a class where foreign language acquisition and teaching students soft skills go hand in hand, both language proficiency and learning the new cultural code come naturally.
