The paper deals with the main features of activities of the institutions of culture from the point of view of tourism and recreation development in Tula region in recent years. The methods of complex analysis of statistical information are used. The generalization of the obtained data is carried out, the aspects of interdependence of tourism and culture are identified.

The article examines the concept of hotel business competitiveness, revealing its economic essence. The authors analyse the main factors influencing the level of competition, give their classification and identify 4 groups of competitiveness factors at the present stage of economic development.
