The adaptation of the Russian economy to Western sanctions in 2022–2023 is of interest to researchers. Why did the economy, which accounts for 3% of world GDP by PPP, with a coordinated and directed impact of economies that give more than 30% of world GDP by PPP, not only did not collapse, but was able to adapt to new realities. The author believes that the reason for this should be sought in the peculiarities of the Russian economy and its place in the world economy. The article analyzes the consequences of Western sanctions on the Russian economy on a large empirical basis. Comparing the real sector of the economy, the main indicators of the financial sector, as well as decarbonization indicators, the author comes to the conclusion that the world economy as a whole has found a new equilibrium position, where Russia still has a worthy place, but the economy of the EU countries has not been able to restore its position in the global economy as a whole. The United States has practically not only lost nothing, but also strengthened its position precisely at the expense of the EU
