The article deals with the issues related to the formation of professional competence of students in the course of their independent work when performing a course project. The topic of course projects carried out in the course of studying the discipline "Theory and methods of teaching mathematics", methodological recommendations for the creation of an educational and methodological complex on the topic of the course project are proposed.

In the modern period, it has become necessary to use such teaching methods that could fully activate the student's mental activity, stimulate him to the process of acquiring knowledge, the desire for self-improvement of knowledge, the disclosure of inner potential.
