Successful prevention of juvenile delinquency and recidivism by police officers consists in the formation of their legal knowledge in the field of social and pedagogical rehabilitation of the persons under supervision. The aim is to assess the level of legal knowledge of future police officers about the essence, structure and content of socio-pedagogical rehabilitation of those persons for the development and practical implementation of the methodology, theory and procedure for the formation of police officers’ competence in the field of socio-pedagogical rehabilitation work with supervised persons. To achieve this goal, the test «Checking the level of knowledge about the implementation of social and pedagogical rehabilitation activities of supervised citizens» was developed, consisting of 40 questions, which were divided into three blocks: regulatory, methodological and psychological-pedagogical. This test was offered to 56 students of the Ural Law Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Yekaterinburg. This article presents the results of testing on the regulatory block. The test revealed low level of students’ knowledge of the normative and legal documents regulating implementation of social and pedagogical rehabilitation of persons under supervision. The authors examine the reasons for choosing wrong answer options by the students. This will make it possible to avoid the formation of incorrect ideas, knowledge, and negative attitude to this area of work in the process of professional training of cadets for social and pedagogical rehabilitation work with supervised persons. Based on the results obtained, the authors developed and introduced into the educational process of the Ural Law Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia the manual “Case study for training law enforcement officers to carry out social and pedagogical rehabilitation work with supervised citizens”. The work with this textbook forms the knowledge, skills and abilities for the implementation of social and pedagogical rehabilitation of supervised persons, contributes to the stimulation of the research potential of students; develops their ability to dispute, debate, discuss, and argumentatively defend their point of view.
