The article discusses the features of the study of quantities in the initial course of mathematics. The stages of studying quantities are revealed. The results of an experimental study are presented, and the developed set of tasks aimed at improving the level of mastery of the concept of magnitude by younger schoolchildren is described. A comparative analysis of the results is given.
