The article examines the theoretical foundations of the development of spatial thinking, its connection with other types of thinking (visual effective, visual figurative and verbal logical), forms of cognitive activity and mental operations. The patterns of the development of this type of thinking in younger schoolchildren are analyzed, based on the concepts of leading psychologists, and its interaction with mental processes such as perception, memory, imagination, and spatial orientation is considered.
