The article offers an analysis of infrastructural restrictions (power outages) in the villages of the Republic of Karelia, which occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic, from the standpoint of studying the roles of material and social resources in the lives of older people. The author claims that in the landscape transformed by the power outage, the work of the modern system has changed, tied to the relatively stable functioning of electricity in villages. In the new landscape, the peculiarities in the perception and understanding of the peculiarities of everyday life and the peculiarities of isolation for the older in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic have changed. The interpretations of these changes by the villagers are also analyzed. The article analyzes the features and main obstacles of infrastructure transformation and the role of infrastructure change in the daily life of the older. The article also discusses the features of both physical and digital immobility in the lives of older people in the villages of the Republic of Karelia during the pandemic.
The article examines the peculiarities of the formation of the care of the local rural community for the older in rural areas. Вased on interviews with older villagers (n = 30) and interviews with caring residents of the local community (n = 10), the study concludes that the importance of supporting the local community and the significant role of the local community in caring for the elderly.
