Keyword: «paratextual device»
The article examines the original versions of the paratext accompanying the literary text, which are non-textual and relate to the design of the work and its going beyond the boundaries of this publication. In modern Russian fiction, the composition of paratextual devices is expanding, the already familiar elements of paratext (title, abstract, illustrations, table of contents, internal headings, graphic means, binding, etc.) are replenished with new ones: different design of parts of the book, associated with various historical narrative plans; graphic stylization of a new genre (novel-film, novel – computer game); solving a riddle given in the book with a reward to the winner; reading a book from both sides; connection of the book with additional materials using a mobile application, etc. Paratext is not an end in itself; it is connected with the content of the book, adds new information and meaning to it. Original, experimental paratextual elements of paratext attract the attention of readers and help increase sales, despite the rise in price of books as a result of their addition.
