The article analyzes the modern domestic historiography of the bodies of the Soviet Prosecutor's Office in 1955–1991. The source base of the research is the works of legal science representatives, historians of law and civil history researchers, published over the past ten years (2009–2018). This analysis allows us to present more objectively the development process of the Soviet prosecutor's office during the so-called “thaw” period, the era of “stagnation” and “perestroika”. Based on a historiographical analysis, the author also finds poorly studied aspects of the problem and prospects for further historical and legal research in this area.
