Prospects of modern school education development are associated with the growing role of its polytechnic components. Special significance of mathematics in technical and scientific progress, the mathematization of many modern fields of knowledge are the basis for the students to choose engineering and technical specialties. In this article the authors examine the properties of helical curves and helicoids which cause wide range of their application in engineering, technology and other fields of science. Using the examples of the topic "Helical curves and helicoids in theory and in practice," high school students can learn about mathematical properties of helical curves and helicoids at their lessons of Mathematics and Physics. Students will be interested where we can find helical curves and helicoids in nature, to learn the history of technological devices which a man uses from ancient times and which are indispensable in the modern world. The article will be interesting for teachers and senior-grade pupils preparing to enter Universities to study technical or mathematical areas.

The article is devoted to the problem of polytechnic education development for 5-8 grades pupils in the aeromodelling circle, the study of the factors that contribute to this development or interfere with it, the search for solutions to problems of improving polytechnic education of adolescents in the system of additional education for children.
