The article summarizes the author’s experience of using proverbs as one of the traditional methods of introducing a new topic and stimulating interest in a new material. Distinguishing characteristics of proverbs and advantages of using them are highlighted and various tasks for working with proverbs are given when teaching English to Education majors who study English as a second foreign language.
