Radioactive waste is one of the least publicized, but at the same time the most important environmental problems of the 21st century. Because of their structure and decomposition time, these substances are the most difficult to dispose of. This article is devoted to the methods of their burial. It examines all available methods for isolating waste from the biosphere, the pros and cons of each approach, and identifying the optimal one to date. Radioactive waste is a problem to be solved by the next generation of nuclear power, which is related to the preservation of fuel and material resources for the long term, the development of relatively clean energy sources that cause minimal damage to the environment and preserve the radiation balance in nature.
This article offers tasks for the development of functional literacy among students of grades 5–7 on the topic «Atomic energy». The tasks are aimed at developing functional literacy in five aspects – reading, mathematical, natural science, global and creative literacy. In the course of completing the tasks, students will not only develop the skills to use the acquired knowledge to solve life problems, but also learn a lot about ways to obtain electricity, radiation and the impact of energy enterprises on the environmental situation.
