The functionality of biblical image in Zakhar Prilepin’s novel "Resident" is considered, the meaning of direct citation interfacing and evangelic intertextuality asymmetric variation is revealed. It is proved that the author-narrator expresses axiological poetic manner of work with the help of allusions, reminiscences, interpretations of scenes from the books of the Old and the New Covenant, gives assessment characters, shows the depth of the spiritual crisis of the 1920s leading Russian people to the disaster, determines the ways out the “outer darkness” of the age of civil wars, famine and decay.
The present study explores intertextual references in the novel “Cloud Atlas” by David Mitchell. The current research focuses on the multiple reminiscences and their role in the novel: their impact on the character development, plot, composition of the novel and on the entire message of this literary work. The study results suggest that intertextuality facilitates stylistic and semantic coherence of each of the six parts of the novel.
