This article analyzes the life and scientific work of Semyon Anisimovich Sidorenko, Doctor of Historical Sciences, the first professor of Russian history in the Southern Urals (1972). The birth of the future scientist and many years of his life are associated with Siberia, which determined the main direction of his scientific research – the history of Siberia. Born at the beginning of the 20th century, he not only witnessed the profound changes that took place, but also experienced their direct impact. This largely determined the main subject of his scientific research – the history of the revolutionary process in Siberia in 1917. His research position was formed under the influence of the Leningrad historical school, which he touched upon as a student and graduate student at Leningrad State University. Based on many years of research with the involvement of archival documentation, periodicals, and personal sources, the scientific work of the professor is considered. Attention is paid to the analysis of his scientific publications devoted to Siberian topics. The novelty of the study is seen in the recreation of the scientific biography of S.A. Sidorenko, analysis of the specifics of the author's research position and determination of his personal contribution to the study of the history of Siberia.
