This article considers the problem of forming translation competence in the field of professional communi-cation. It contains the review of the works of various researchers, in which the characteristics of translation competence and its components are listed. Also, the author gives his own definition of translation compe-tence in the field of professional communication.
The article reveals a strategy for mastering the skills of reading professional texts by students. The stages of practical mastering of professionally-oriented material in foreign language classes at a non-linguistic university are analyzed. The points of view on the problem of both domestic and foreign scientists are presented.
The article discusses the technique of working with a special text in the classroom on the scientific style of speech. The author lays special emphasis on the importance of observing didactic and methodological principles, when teaching reading to foreign military personnel on the basis of educational and scientific texts. The practical part includes instructions on the sequence of work with special texts of the scientific style as well as the basic formulations of assignments for foreign cadets and listeners.
Teaching a foreign language to university students of non-linguistic profiles is regarded as professionally oriented. An integral part of foreign language proficiency as a means of professional activity is translation competence. The author gives a brief overview of the works of various researchers, that describe the stages of formation and development of professionally oriented translation competence of non-linguistic students, and also shares her own experience.
