This article examines the role of school physical education (PE) as a key factor in fostering a healthy lifestyle among adolescents. It analyzes age-specific characteristics of adolescence that influence health-related attitudes and identifies core functions of PE lessons–educational, practical, motivational, and developmental. The study highlights current challenges that reduce the effectiveness of PE instruction and proposes strategies for modernizing its content and methodology. Emphasis is placed on adopting a student-centered approach aimed at cultivating sustained motivation for independent physical activity and conscious commitment to a healthy lifestyle. The findings underscore the potential of PE not merely as a curricular subject, but as a vital component of holistic health education in schools.
