The article examines the essence of the competence-based learning model and the possibility of using V. V. Vereshchagin's battle painting as part of its implementation in the lessons of national history at school. The authors describe the various competencies of the student and analyze how V. V. Vereshchagin's battle painting can contribute to their development.
