Based on the materials of the Smolensk Regional Dictionary by V.N. Dobrovolsky and the Dictionary of Grodno Dialects by T.F. Steshkovich, the article examines the vocabulary that characterizes a person as a physical being, identifies common and specific approaches in describing the designated fragment of the linguistic picture of the world by speakers of closely related dialects.

The article analyzes, using material from the Russian National Corpus (RNC), the functioning of colour terms (coffee, plum, sand, apricot, champagne) in contemporary journalistic discourse. It identifies their spheres of usage, contextual meanings, and connotations.urban environment, serve as code words of a town and are a kind of password for its inhabitants.
