The sociocultural competence and its role in intercultural interaction is analyzed. The author stresses the importance of the competence forming by translation training in the period of globalization. The results of the research of the foreign proper names and their translation into Russian are provided. The article is aimed to show and prove the necessity of the upgrading of the level of the sociocultural competence of humanitarian students.

The new era evokes more questions to the whole mankind. There are such among them as covid pandemic, climate change, migration problems, digital and computer development. They state the lack of mutual understanding between the peoples. UN support the idea of sustainable development of the civilization. It fits the goals of foreign language teaching and should be used as a basis for the education.
