In our article we try to analyze the peculiarities of science fiction translation on example of R. L. Stevenson’s story “The Bottle imp" translation, made by O. Terekh. Science fiction text does not only repeat the characteristics of literary text, but also has a number of its own features: the large number of occasional vocabulary, some special realities and names. We have identified translation transformations used by the translator, to convey as close as possible the structure and vocabulary of the original text, while preserving the adequacy and comprehensibility.
This article is devoted to the analysis of the features and effectiveness of applying techniques and strategies for translating O. Henry's story "The Marriage Month of May" from English into Russian and German. Despite the latest research in the field of translation of literary texts, the problem of achieving the equivalence of the elements of artistic structure remains open. The scientific novelty of the research is the fact that for the first time the translation of the original text into two languages has been compared and the possibility of applicability/inapplicability of translation transformations has been considered. The purpose of the work is to analyze translated texts in Russian and German and to identify translation mistakes.
The sociocultural competence and its role in intercultural interaction is analyzed. The author stresses the importance of the competence forming by translation training in the period of globalization. The results of the research of the foreign proper names and their translation into Russian are provided. The article is aimed to show and prove the necessity of the upgrading of the level of the sociocultural competence of humanitarian students.
