The article describes the basic concepts of the studied phenomenon: intelligence, intellectual development, intellectual activity, self-development; stand out criteria and indicators of intellectual self-development of students. The transformation of modern civilization into an information society actualizes, first, the problem of the formation of information competence of the individual.
