The article is devoted to the problems of modern management, namely characteristics of the modern manager. Based on various approaches to this question, the author considers that the main direction of all manager’s characteristics is his competitiveness. The competitive manager has not only professional competence, legal and information knowledge and general culture, but leadership and enterprise skills, is capable to continuous personal development and to promote development of others. Investigating qualities of the manager, the author offers the vision of the competitive manager and conditions for his formation. Such manager has to become a key figure in Russian economy modernization.

The paper is devoted to guidance from rural youth, improvement of the process by means of synergetic and harmonization of modern technology and traditional values in agricultural professional orientation. The paper draws attention to humanization of education as a condition of professional training for rural specialists.
