The article focuses on historical studies of Russian folk costume in the works of the XIX - early XX centuries. The features marked the most significant issues in the works of the period. Reflects the author's approach to the study of people's everyday issues of culture, part of which is costume.

The paper deals with a brief analysis of the use of folk motifs in design of clothing in the last century and early 21st century and shows the result of creative work of students of Technology and Design Department, based on Russian folk female costume and implemented in collection of demi-season coat.
