The article is devoted to the study of the Holocaust theme in school providing general education. Methods of conducting classes with students of different ages are shown. The article highlights the important role of this theme studying in cultural and moral development of students.

The article discusses the problem of the German people’s feeling of guilt for the crimes committed during the Third Reich through the prism of Willy Bredel’s short story “The Silent Village”. The theme of the guilt of the whole nation and its overcoming is an urgent issue in the modern world, as new generations begin to forget the events of the middle of the last century. The theme of the Holocaust, its understanding in different countries, has become relevant as well today.
