The article deals with the way the literary device of allusion is used in the British TV-series «Downtown Abbey». Literary allusions in the TV saga are made to the works of classical English novelists (J. Austen, J. Galsworthy, D.H. Lawrence). Allusions are viewed within the context of linguacultural information they render and cultural associations they arouse. The role of allusions as a central manifestation of intertextuality is also in the focus of the given paper.
The article is devoted to the study of the concept of foreign reception in the framework of an intermediate approach. The theoretical foundations of the intermedial approach and intertextuality are analyzed. From the presented observations, it can be seen that researchers have different approaches to reception. It is revealed that the main way of carrying out foreign reception is transfers. As an example for analysis, the translation of the Yakut poet I. Arbita “Min Mayagym” (1936) of the poem by the Russian symbolist poet V. Bryusov “My Lighthouse” (1914) is taken.
The article describes the interpretative (associative-figurative, connotative) potential of verbal-figurative means. They represent the value-semantic opposition “we – you” in I. Brodsky’s poem “Devoted to the Independence of Ukraine”. The content of this opposition is relevant to the “historical moments” depicted in the text; it is largely determined by the influence of meanings emanating from the archetypal concept of “betrayal” and is actualized by the preceding texts (compositions by Pushkin, Shevchenko, Mayakovsky, Mandelstam, Tsvetaeva, Solzhenitsyn, etc.).
