The present study explores intertextual references in the novel “Cloud Atlas” by David Mitchell. The current research focuses on the multiple reminiscences and their role in the novel: their impact on the character development, plot, composition of the novel and on the entire message of this literary work. The study results suggest that intertextuality facilitates stylistic and semantic coherence of each of the six parts of the novel.
The article analyzes the degree of influence of the poetic tradition laid down by Mikhail Naumenko on the lyrics of the popular Yuri Loza's album “A Journey to Rock 'n' Roll” compositions aimed at the tastes of the mass listener. The tasks carried out within the framework of the work included a comparison of texts from the album “Journey to Rock and Roll” with the works of Mikhail Naumenko, sustained in a similar style, devoted to similar topics or containing the same poetic techniques, analysis of these texts, identification of similar features, establishment of differences and determining the degree of influence of Mike Naumenko on the work of Yuri Loza. The relevance of the article is due to the increased interest in the life, work and personality of Mikhail Naumenko in recent years, as well as the relatively small amount of scientific research and development devoted to his contribution to the domestic rock culture. In the work on the materials, a combination of typological, sociological and comparative-historical research methods was used.
The article discusses the intertextual relations of two novels in verse – “Eugene Onegin” by A.S. Pushkin and the «Golden Gate» by the modern Indian writer, poet V. Seth, who writes in English. The object of analysis is the intertextual connection of these works written in different epochs and in different cultures. The Pushkin text in this peculiar "intertextual complex" acts as a source text (pretext) on the basis of which a new text is created, while the latter reproduces not only the pretext form (Onegin stanza), but also the image of the Puskin's hero, that allows us to call the novel by V. Set «Onegin from San Francisco». The search for the intertextual parallels was carried out by analyzing the first chapters of both texts, since namely in these chapters both authors introduce their heroes, and V. Seth literally accentuates «the genetic kinship» of his hero with Pushkin's one.
The current research studies the categories of intermediality and intertextuality as the key features of postmodern paradigm. The research highlights cinematic intermediality in general, and Woody Allen’s films, in particular. Woody Allen skillfully captures the postmodern spirit in his works through multiple intertextual references, inter-arts associations, mixture of more than two genres. The combination of the above features creates a special atmosphere of Woody Allen’s films that renders his understanding of postmodern aesthetics.
The article discusses the intermediate elements that influence the development of the story's plot. During the analysis, it was found that painting descriptions, or pictorial ecphrasies, in a made of character system contribute to the creation of a meaningful mythological subtext. It is stated that the deep meaning of Ulitskaya's work is most fully revealed through intertextual references and allusions.
