In this article the author introduces readers to the features of the origin of extracurricular ed-ucation in Russia and the occurrence of Sunday schools as the very first institutions of extracurricu-lar education. The pedagogical views of K. D. Ushinsky on the education and upbringing of pupils in Sunday schools, his approaches to the educational process in these institutions are revealed. The article substantiates the urgency of K. D. Ushinsky's pedagogical ideas and the need to use them in contemporary schools.

The article studies parenting as a philosophical and historical phenomenon. The main priorities of parental education in the works of K. D. Ushinsky are considered. The author offers an analysis of the pedagogical views of the scientist, based on which a conclusion is made about the anthropological foundations of his understanding of the priorities of parental education of children in the family.
