The article examines the problem of legal nihilism as a systemic challenge for the Russian legal system. Based on a comprehensive analysis, the nature, historical roots and key features of legal nihilism are revealed, its typology and interrelation with other deformations of legal consciousness are presented. Based on empirical data (VTSIOM surveys in 2023–2024), the scale of the phenomenon has been demonstrated. The necessity of a systematic approach to overcoming legal nihilism, including legislative, educational and technological measures, is substantiated. Criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of strategies and the projected effects over a five-year period are defined.
