The paper deals with the different approaches to the delineation of polysemy and homonymy in linguistic terminology. Examples of different lexicographic representations of linguistic terms are described, as a lexical-semantic variant of a multivalued word or a separate lexical unit (homonym).

The article deals with Russian linguistic terminology, its current state; highlights the integrative and dynamic character of linguistic terminology, redundancy, ambiguity. There is no rational semiotic organization in the terminology. Particular attention is paid to terminological paradigmatic relations – synonymy and variability of linguistic terms. The main trends of development are revealed. The measures for improvement and normalization of linguistic terminology are determined.
