The article presents an artistic analysis of the sonata for solo cello by the outstanding Yakut composer N.S. Berestov. The sonata is one of the composer's major works. The musical language of the sonata is based on the national Yakut folklore, which combines the techniques of developing melody, grace notes (kylysakha), characteristic of the guttural singing of the Yakuts, and frequent changes of meter. In addition, the composer presents lyrical themes in the style of folk singing degeren-yrya, characterized by a wider range, developed melody, and rhythmic certainty.
