The article analyzes the concepts of professional orientation on the basis of research, and reveals the essence and content of professional orientation and military-professional orientation of cadets of military educational institutions and its impact on the development of the future profession.

In the conditions of the current state of the problem of human mental adaptation, the authors tried to differentiate the psychological processes and mechanisms aimed at adapting the personality to the requirements of the environment into active – conscious and passive – reactive defense mechanisms that are not realized by the subject. Without denying the significance of the constitutionally and socially determined individual psychological factors of the “choice” of an adaptive strategy, we can assume that in some cases, along with them, the qualitative and quantitative requirements of the environment and activity can significantly affect the mechanisms of adaptation and mediate certain patterns of personality development.

The article discusses the conditions for the formation of patriotic education on a cadet school. The formation of the motivational component of the choice of military profession takes place by means of lesson and extracurricular work. It is emphasized that the study of literature and the Russian language is an important factor in the formation of citizenship and patriotism.
