The article deals with the typical features of D. Trump’s inaugural address that is seen as an example of oratorical style. Particular attention is paid to the use of lexical, syntactic and phonetic devices the president resorts to. Tropes are viewed within the context of political, social and religious beliefs they render and arguments they support. The role of different kinds of syntactic and lexical repetitions as a central manifestation of oratorical speeches is also in the focus of the given paper.
The article deals with stylistic and semantic peculiarities of the American president’s 2nd inaugural speech. The paper shows a high stylistic potential and an obvious rhetorical effect of lexical, syntactic and phonetic stylistic devices frequently used by the US head of state in the inaugural address. Key messages and central ideas are viewed within the context of linguacultural information they render and historical associations they might arouse. The mixture of oratorical and colloquial styles seen as a key manifestation of Trump’s individual manner is also in the focus of the given paper.
