The article deals with stylistic ways of creating the image of the atypical reasoner Alfred Doolittle in the classical work by B. Shaw. The playwright’s imagery is viewed within the context of socialist and feministic ideas advocated in the play. The author comes to the conclusion that Doolittle’s characterization is based upon an ample use of lexical, syntactic and phonetic devices indicative of oratorical style.

Particular attention is paid to the use of lexical, syntactic and phonetic devices the president resorts to. Tropes are viewed within the context of political, social and religious beliefs they render and arguments they support. The role of different kinds of syntactic and lexical repetitions as a central manifestation of oratorical speeches is also in the focus of the given paper.

The article deals with the way emotive-evaluative constructions function in D.A. Medvedev’s blog in Telegram. The paper shows a high stylistic potential and an obvious satirical effect of lexical, syntactic and phonetic tropes frequently used by the political blogger and ex-president. Historical, biblical and literary allusions are viewed within the context of linguacultural information they render and cultural associations they might arouse. The role of original, sustained and trite metaphors in Medvedev’s posts as a key manifestation of his individual manner is also in the focus of the given paper.
