The author discusses the experience of the secondary language personality formation on the example of language education in the national pre-revolutionary gymnasium. In the comparative aspect, parallels are stated with the requirements of modern foreign language education. The organization and content of foreign language education in pre-revolutionary gymnasium late XIX early XX century are disclosed, the author allo-cates axiological meaningful experience that can be extrapolated on a modern language education.
the ways of defining of a competence are provided, as well as the sphere of the professional competence forming for future teaches of foreign language is discussed. The necessity of developing of the secondary language personality through language teaching is revealed.
