The article presents the results of the study of the problem of acquaintance of preschool children with the ideas of form, which show a spontaneous interest in such mathematical categories as shape, geometric shapes and learn to connect them with each other, forming knowledge and skills. The author proposes to consider this problem from two sides: in terms of sensory perception of geometric shapes and their use as standards in the knowledge of the forms of surrounding objects, as well as in terms of knowledge of the features of their structure, properties, basic relationships and patterns in their construction.
