The article is devoted to one of the most important of musical abilities – intonational hearing. The author shows interrelation of his manifestations in speech and musical activity. The insufficient level of development of intonational hearing is in many respects connected with an unsuccessful condition of the modern sound environment. The training course of solfeggio provided that its fundamental methodical principle is esthetic, instead of "technical" education of professional qualities of the pupil can become an effective form of intonational hearing development.

The article reveals the experience of the remarkable teacher of the Higher School of Music of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), Vera Ivanovna Berestova, who left a big mark on the history of music education in Yakutia and made a significant contribution to the methods of educating young musicians.
