The article considers the problems of organizing students’ practically-oriented training in the field of teaching foreign languages. Some aspects of realizing academic awareness practice of Bachelor’s programme students and project-technological practice of Master’s programme students are discussed. The experience of realizing these types of practice at the Institute of History, Philosophy and Political Studies of Ryazan State University named for S. Yessenin is given as an example.

The article analyzes professional competences (information-communicative) and functions (research and educational) of a modern university teacher, their mission regarding students, scientific community and the role in the local community. The results of the survey conducted among the students and teachers of the Institute of History, Philosophy and Political Sciences of Ryazan State University named for S.A. Yessenin are given.
