The article discusses the functional-pragmatic and linguistic parameters of the differentiation of discourse types and the texts that form them, and proposes an analytical apparatus for solving a number of tasks related to the study of certain communicative interaction aspects, including the modal component of the texts.

The article is devoted to considering listening comprehension as a type of speech activity and selected aspects of teaching foreign students listening skills. It addresses the teaching objectives with regard to listening comprehension, provides a basic nomenclature of listening skills, elicits the groups of learning difficulties connected with formation of the listening skills and suggests some ways of overcoming these difficulties by means of the consistent system of tasks aimed at improving both all kinds of listening skills and compensatory skills.

The article addresses the concept of professional communicative competence formed by means of a foreign language, elicits the factors underlying successful mastering of English by foreign trainees and outlines some methods of optimal inclusion of these factors in the process of education. The article also presents some forms of organizing trainees’ individual work conducive to successful mastering of the English language.
