Currently, the Russian Federation launched the “Program of modernization teacher education for 2014–2017 years”. The paper deals with the promising directions in education such as the use of variant learning paths and entry into teaching profession; orientation of content and technology of vocational education on demands of educational activities and professional standards of a teacher; updating capabilities and resources of broad social and cultural environment of a university.

The paper discusses innovative projects as essential mechanisms for innovative development of Russian universities. An innovative educational project is characterized as a system of actions of educational institutions for creating unique educational products, services and results. The description of the project “Competence-surface-oriented training of professionals in higher education” is given and it is implemented within the framework of "Program of Strategic Development of Vyatka State University of Humanities in 2012-2016. The features of project management include innovative project, production commerce stages.

Problems in the organization of patriotic education of youth requires joint efforts of representatives of various public institutions. The paper presents the results of a study of current activity of the representatives of educational and public organizations and associations of patriotic education of citizens, examines typical problems of realization of the program of patriotic education.
