The article examines the meaning and perception of color in cultures of different countries in different historical periods. Special attention is paid to the symbolism of yellow, green and blue colors in religious tradition and painting. The lexical features of the use of colors in idioms and collocations in Russian and English linguistic culture are given, which can be used in teaching English as a foreign language.
The article describes the process of using authentic texts for teaching foreign languages (English as an example). This article presents the methodology, stages and exercises for teaching reading authentic texts to form sociocultural competence. The study reveals the educational potential of using authentic materials, shows its advantages in the teaching process.
The author analyses the importance of sociocultural component in teaching. The structure of it is provided as well as the possible influence on the way of learning of the foreign language process is shown.
