Forming cartographic competence of future teachers of geography is an actual problem of modern vocational education. The paper discusses the importance of cartographic expertise in teacher professional development, discloses the contents of cartographic competence and modern educational principles of the organization of educational process in higher educational institution conditions. Personality oriented approach is defined as the major one in the basic justification of methodological bases of the formation of cartographic competence of future teachers of geography.
