The article presents the results of the study of descriptive stories of schoolchildren with severe speech disorders. It is reported that these children find it difficult to structure the description and reveal its contents. Schoolchildren find it difficult to characterize heroes based on author's text and reproductions of paintings. It is noted that the most difficult problem for them is to give a description of a landscape picture.

The article discusses current problems of the structural words typology. Factors that hinder unequivocal qualification of the nouns naming logical relations of conditionality are considered. It is demonstrated, that such structural words may be regarded not only as relators, but also as classifiers.
The units of predicate vocabulary are characterized as a means of representing objects of the natural world, capturing their beauty; the words in the predicate function used in the description of the pheasant are analyzed. The features of V.M. Peskov’s idiostyle as a journalist or a moderator of the program «Window to Nature», are highlighted. These features determined the creation of visible, colorful natural images and had an educational effect on the addressee.
The article describes the structure and content of the essay-sketch, proposes a methodology for preparing and writing it in the lessons of the «Russian language» in the 3rd grade, provides essay-sketch written by younger students.
