The article is devoted to the analysis of the symbolic functions of the costume in the novel by A. I. Solzhenitsyn's “The First Circle”. The polyfunctionality of a costume in a literary work is based on the fact that it is both a thing and a sign, acting as an artistic detail. The symbolism of the costume is for the author a means of expressing his attitude to reality, a means of creating the color of the historical era. The costume in the novel is not only a depiction of reality, but an important symbolic aspect. The detail in the novel by A. Solzhenitsyn, in particular the costume, is used in building the plot and reflecting the psychological characteristics of the characters. The author of the article shows that the costume details in the novel, despite the laconicism of the description, are an important part of the psychological portrait of the characters. In addition, the character's “freedom / lack of freedom” is assessed through the repeated costume detail.

The article presents the results of studies of the composition, properties and structure of the bushing and pin of the rear spring of a truck operated in low-temperature climatic conditions of the North. The levels of hardness and microhardness of the hardened layer and the central part of the pin are determined. The surface profiles of worn parts before and after operation are shown.
